Beginning in October and through May, the Teacher Fellowship Program hosts five Saturday training sessions designed to inform and inspire ideas for arts integrated lessons. Training sessions include academic lectures, artist-led workshops, tours of outsider art collections, work time and online field trips to museums. Teacher Fellows will serve as an advisory council for Intuit as the museum develops online videos for students, live-online field trips for schools, and at-home learning resources.
Through these sessions, Teacher Fellows form a community of teachers engaged in building their teaching practice with colleagues from across the city and exploring ways to integrate outsider art in their lessons.
Teacher Fellows will directly impact and contribute to the creative direction of online resources at Intuit. Intuit recommends teachers apply in teams of two from the same school. October 9, , 10 a. Newberry Teacher Fellowships are opportunities for teachers to create online classroom resources. These resources are based on primary source collections at the Newberry Library and featured on Digital Collections for the Classroom DCC —a vibrant and growing repository of digital essays and digitized archival sources that cover topics including literature, US history, world history, world languages, geography, visual arts, music, and religion.
Past Teacher Fellows have contributed to the DCC site by conducting original primary research in the library, writing essays on a topic, and developing supplementary classroom materials like lesson and unit plans.
This year, we seek an author of supplementary classroom materials to accompany already-published DCCs. Practicing K—12 public, private, and parochial school teachers are eligible to apply for Newberry Teacher Fellowships; Chicago Public Schools teachers are especially encouraged to apply.
The deadline for all application materials has been extended to 9 am CST on Monday, September 20, Additional fellowship information and application requirements can be found here. Interested in our collections, but unable to research in person?
